Yoga for Athletes

Description

This class is designed for the recreational athlete as well as the competitive athlete.  Gain insight into techniques and poses that will help facilitate your training and maximize your recovery.  We will focus on breathing techniques, developing core strength and stability and releasing tension in tight areas.  The attention to breath during yoga is an essential benefit to all athletes.  Learning to stay centered and focused through an uncomfortable pose by concentrating on smooth, even inhalations and exhalations prepares the athlete to stay mentally focused during a race or challenging workout.  In addition, yoga helps to not only relax tight muscles, but also anxious and overworked minds which will aid athletic performance.

Kristin's Bio

Kristin began practicing yoga in 2003. She immediately felt a personal connection to her asana practice and was drawn in by the spiritual and physical benefits of yoga. "My yoga practice changed my life and created a new compassion that I now have towards others and myself.  It also renewed my commitment to keeping myself physically fit and active while maintaining a healthy diet."  Upon graduating from Kim Valeri's YOGAspirit Studios in 2004, where she gained a deep knowledge and awareness of the eight limbs of yoga, Kristin became an independent yoga instructor so that she can share this personal, spiritual and physical journey with others.  Kristin uses the teachings she has gained from yoga—such as controlled breathing, spiritual awareness and physical strength—and applies those aptitudes towards long distance running, cycling and triathlons.  "My yoga practise has helped me develop the mental focus and concentration that is needed on long training runs and competitive events and allows me to recover faster after a hard workout."
